Discover Jacksonville’s Past, Free Tour Highlights James Weldon Johnson’s Influence in LaVilla Neighborhood

In the heart of Jacksonville’s LaVilla neighborhood, the enduring legacy of Principal James Weldon Johnson echoes through the streets, a testament to the strides taken toward education for Black students. The City of Jacksonville, Florida – Government, through a social media post, enlightened residents about Johnson’s pivotal role in fostering the transition of Stanton School into a comprehensive educational institution that would serve elementary, junior, and senior high school students. “His legacy isn’t just found in song. On June 7th, locals will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the narrative of their city and the movements birthed within it. Yollie from Explore JAX Core will conduct a 50-minute tour, courtesy of the City of Jacksonville, Florida – Government.
