Jacksonville Man Faces Decades in Prison for Shooting Father

Byron Kyle Holman, 35, has been found guilty by a Duval County jury of Aggravated Battery and now faces a minimum sentence of 25 years up to life in Florida State Prison. The verdict was announced by State Attorney Melissa Nelson. The Honorable London Kite will preside over Holman’s sentencing at a later date.

The conviction stems from an incident on August 26, 2023, when officers responded to a New Kings Road gas station for a reported shooting. The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, was at the gas station when his son, Holman, arrived with another person.

An argument escalated into a physical fight between the victim and the other individual. After the victim hit the other person’s car with a tire pump in retaliation for his own car being hit with a tire iron, Holman retrieved a shotgun from his car. Despite the victim telling him to put the firearm away and turning his back, Holman shot his father before driving away. A witness recorded part of the incident, confirming Holman shot the victim…
