The quest for answers and justice continues in the case of Charles Faggart, an inmate who passed away following an incident at the Duval County Jail over two months ago. On April 10, Faggart, 31, died under circumstances that have yet to be publicly clarified. His mother, Tracey Karpas, expressed frustration after learning that the nine Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) staff involved were quietly reassigned rather than being suspended or terminated, First Coast News reported.
According to News4JAX, the incident left Faggart in critical condition on April 7, and he remained “brain dead” until his death three days later. The officers and a sergeant in question have since been reassigned to roles within the courthouse, Records Unit, and the Property and Evidence Unit, roles seemingly distant from their original duties where the grave incident occurred.
Joining Tracey Karpas, dozens of protesters have rallied at the Duval County Courthouse, insisting on transparency and accountability from local law enforcement. The autopsy report provided little closure, listing the cause of death as “unable to determine,” further deepening the mystery of Faggart’s demise.
