4 taken to hospital with heat-related issues after Amtrak en route to Jacksonville stopped for ‘mechanical assessment’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sixteen people were treated and four were taken to the hospital due to “heat-related issues” on Sunday after an Amtrak train planning to make a stop in Jacksonville had to be stopped for a “mechanical assessment.”

Nassau County Fire Rescue confirmed the hospitalizations to News4JAX, adding that all patients and passengers are in stable condition and that the agency provided trucks of water and ice for passengers.

The train, Train 41, was carrying a total of 219 passengers, officials said, and was originally scheduled to go from Chicago to Miami, with stops in cities like Jacksonville and Savannah planned along the way, according to Amtrak’s train status tracker…
