High heat mixed with afternoon coastal breezes brings another day of stormy weather

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friday afternoon brought stormy conditions to some areas yesterday, while other areas of our region saw little to no rain. Today will be very similar.

Expect temperatures to be in the 90s by lunchtime. As the heat increases, so does the heat index, rising into the 105-107 degree range. Please be sure to stay hydrated, and if you are susceptible to heat-related illnesses, you can just seek shade and/or air conditioning when you start to feel sick. And, never leave anyone – pets and children especially – in a hot car for even a minute.

Scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain remain possible

The afternoon sea breezes will converge along US 301 before drifting east as the evening nears. Widespread strong to severe storms are possible as these storms develop. Stay weather aware when outdoors and when you hear thunderstorms, be sure to move into a safe indoor space. Some neighborhoods saw heavy rain and even strong storms yesterday, while others stayed dry.

These storms are expected to be hit-or-miss, making it important to keep an eye on the sky if you have outdoor plans. Downpours, lightning, and briefly strong winds are all possible, especially after 2 p.m. If thunder is heard or lightning is spotted, move indoors right away for safety…
