Suspect Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting at Jacksonville Boat Ramp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—A 37-year-old man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that took place on Monday, August 25, after a series of events that began at a local boat ramp.

According to a briefing from Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and Chief Alan Parker, the incident began around 6 p.m. when a couple fishing at a boat ramp near Dutton Island Road and Mayport Road heard gunshots. They saw the suspect shooting a rifle into the water, and he then pointed the weapon at them. A struggle over the rifle ensued, and the husband was able to disarm the suspect and throw the rifle into the water.

The couple left in their vehicle but saw the suspect driving toward them head-on. They were able to avoid a collision, but the suspect’s vehicle then hit another car on Mayport Road before stopping near some bushes…
