Provided everything went well Monday with pre-operation retesting. Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith is slated to go under the scalpel today at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville to receive a kidney transplant.
“They want to make sure I’m physically able to go through the transplant before they’ll do it,” said Smith, in an interview following the Sept. 11 ceremony at the sheriff’s office. “So that means a lot of different tests, EKG, heart, lungs, God, I can’t remember all the different ones I went through, but they’re going to retest me on Monday, and if that all goes well, then Tuesday morning will be a transplant..”
Smith will receive a kidney from a live donor as part of a three to four hour surgery. He said they would prefer their name is not disclosed. “They’re pretty private,” he said…
