Jacksonville family mourns ‘free spirit’ killed in hit-and-run crash as detectives identify suspect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Family members are mourning a 35-year-old woman who was hit and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mayport earlier this month, as a kind, outgoing woman who loved her family deeply.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Rebecca “Becca” McCarley was riding her bicycle along Wonderwood Drive near A1A when her friend needed to stop and fix his wagon. The family said her friend pulled off to the sidewalk while she stayed in the bike lane when a car came and hit her.

Investigators told the family they have identified a suspect and vehicle connected to the crash, though no arrests have been made…
