Severe Cold and Red Flag Warnings in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida as Residents Urged to Take Precautions

Northeast Florida is bracing for a sharp drop in temperature, as a Cold Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville warns of wind chills plummeting to as low as 24 degrees from the early hours of Tuesday. Residents in areas including Coastal Duval and Flagler, among others, are advised to dress warmly, with a hat and gloves, and take measures to protect the more vulnerable, including the elderly and pets, from the risks posed by such unusually bitter cold.

According to the same NWS advisory, the frigid conditions are expected to last from 2 AM to 8 AM EST Tuesday, covering a broad swath of Northeast Florida, including Inland Flagler and Coastal and Inland St. Johns Counties the advisory conforming a very real risk of hypothermia or frostbite if proper precautions aren’t taken, extreme cold weather, such as this is somewhat rare in the region and thus may catch residents off guard, making adherence to the advisory essential.

Simultaneously, the region is under a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service due to critically low humidity values and strong gusty winds creating ideal conditions for rapid fire spread. The areas affected include Suwannee, Baker, Inland Nassau, and several others from 10 AM Monday to 7 PM of the same day- the convergence of low humidity, strong winds, and high temperatures may result in extreme fire behavior and as such, residents are strongly advised against any outdoor burning during this period…
