The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has issued a Critical Incident Briefing regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 29, 2025, on Ponce Boulevard. The incident resulted in the death of 46-year-old Alan Rush, who was reportedly in possession of narcotics and a firearm at the time.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, officers were conducting a follow-up investigation on a known felon, William Lowe, when they encountered Alan Rush. The officers observed Lowe leaving a residence and entering an SUV, which they then attempted to stop by positioning their vehicles on both sides. Officer Z. Jennings approached the SUV on the driver’s side, where Rush was seated, and instructed him to turn off the engine. When Rush did not comply, Jennings attempted to remove him from the vehicle, leading to a struggle during which Rush reportedly brandished a handgun. Jennings then fired a single shot after issuing a warning, resulting in Rush’s death at the scene.
Investigators at the scene found a handgun with an empty chamber beneath Rush’s body, along with a significant quantity of narcotics, including methamphetamine and cocaine, which were concealed in a child’s lunchbox on Rush and inside the vehicle. The State Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent review of the incident to evaluate the officer’s use of force.
