Chaos ensued in Middleburg, Florida, when deputies called to a disturbance ended up facing a violent canine attack, as detailed by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post. Responding to a verbal altercation and reports of gunfire on January 22, law enforcement found more than they bargained for at around 6:15 P.M. when they were confronted by a woman and three large dogs from within an RV.
During the intervention, Deputy Riley was seriously injured by one of the aggressive dogs and subsequently, in an effort to protect himself fired his weapon, killing the animal, this according to the same social media update. The altercation escalated as the dog’s owner, Vichelle Rigney confronted the deputies, thwarting their attempts to provide medical assistance to the wounded Riley. Amidst the chaos, two other deputies faced dog bites as well; one subdued another aggressive dog using his taser.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s account relayed that Rigney was apprehended for Resisting Law Enforcement Without Violence following the incident.
