Teen who ended ‘horrific attack’ on family honored for bravery

On Sept. 15, 2025, a 16-year-old boy exemplified pure bravery and courage in stopping the savagery that besieged his Middleburg home.

On Feb. 4 the Clay County Sheriff’s Office presented Vincent Cicone III its first Brave and Courageous Award.

“Last year we had a horrible incident in our county. A crazed man randomly entered a home and attacked a family.  A very brave young man grabbed a gun and ended the horrific attack,” Sheriff Michelle Cook said. “… No award will ever bring his family members back, but we want this young man to know that he is loved and respected … and that we are incredibly proud of him.”…
