Two arrested after $14.5 million in robotic surgical arms stolen from Jacksonville hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection to the thefts of $14.5 million in surgical robotic arms from St. Vincent’s Hospital.

57-year-old Angela Kearse was employed with St. Vincent’s as a surgical assistant at the Riverside location and was arrested on Dec. 27, 2024. Arrest reports say she used her badge to access the Southside location and allegedly steal medical robot arms two days before, on Christmas.

Steve Barreira, the security manager for St. Vincent’s, had reported the thefts at the Southside location. The security team began a review of surveillance footage, where they found video and still images of Kearse exiting the facility at 3 a.m. with duffel bags and cardboard boxes later confirmed to be the stolen equipment…
