Waterfront Shakeup As Harry’s Snaps Up Whitey’s Fish Camp In Fleming Island

Whitey’s Fish Camp, the waterfront Fleming Island seafood spot that has been serving boaters and locals since 1963, has a new owner. On March 12, Harry’s restaurant group bought the property for $3.8 million and says it plans to keep Whitey’s identity largely intact, with modest updates and a few signature dishes from the Harry’s menu.

Clay County property records list the transaction, with Harry’s of America LLC acquiring the business through an entity called WFC1963 LLC. The property at 2032 County Road 220 sits on Doctors Lake and includes the restaurant, dock and RV park. The seller appears as Ham Trust Inc., maintained by longtime Whitey’s staffers Elaine Cassala, Lucian Lawley and William Ham III, as reported by Jacksonville Daily Record.

“The concept will stay the same,” Louis Saig, part of the new ownership team, told the Jacksonville Daily Record, adding that the group plans only “fresh paint” and kitchen upgrades. Saig said the menu will remain focused on traditional seafood while introducing a limited number of Harry’s dishes, most notably Harry’s jambalaya.

Whitey’s began as a small tackle shop in 1963 and grew into a five-acre complex with decks, live music and a 21-slip docking facility that helped turn it into a regional destination. The site was listed with Colliers when the family put it on the market, and Jacksonville Today details the property’s footprint and history, noting that the complex includes dining decks, a dock and an RV park and that the business has employed roughly 125 people.

What Changes Regulars Will Actually See

Buyers say they plan light cosmetic and equipment updates rather than a full overhaul, which should limit disruption for regulars and weekend boat traffic. Harry’s ownership has experience operating casual seafood and Cajun concepts across North and Central Florida, and local coverage has long highlighted Whitey’s draw for boaters and live music crowds, as covered by News4JAX…
