Outdoor food hall, live music venue, dog park opens to overflow crowds

A larger-than-expected crowd, estimated in the thousands, turned out during the opening weekend of a first-of-its-kind, family-oriented Jacksonville venue with an outdoor food hall featuring eight restaurants and a craft brewery, plus a unique kids’ playground, live music pavilion and a private dog park.

The BLOCK Jax, in the works for slightly more than two years, recently debuted at 7520 Quarter Mill Drive off Gate Parkway — roughly a half mile north of IKEA on the Southside.

Crowds estimated at 15,000 to 20,000 flocked to the 2.5-acre venue during its March 20-22 grand opening weekend, causing significant parking problems in the surrounding neighborhood…
