Lackawanna Power Play: Jacksonville Contractor Super-Sizes HQ To 20,000 Square Feet

One Jacksonville contractor is trading tight quarters for a massive upgrade. Performance Electrical Contracting, a Jacksonville-based electrical and infrastructure contractor, has purchased the former Bernie’s Tool & Fastener building in the city’s Lackawanna neighborhood and plans to convert it into a far larger headquarters. The company is set to jump from about 2,500 square feet of shop and office space to roughly 20,000 square feet on a property of just over an acre, giving it room for more crews, service bays and a larger fleet. Company leadership says the move is designed to support a growing team and rising project volume across Northeast Florida and follows a particularly busy year of expanding services and staff.

In a press release via the Jacksonville Business Journal, President Mark Asselin said the new headquarters is “a direct reflection of the momentum we’ve built and where we’re headed.” The release notes that the Lackawanna parcel measures more than one acre and that the site will be outfitted with offices, shop bays and staging areas for service crews. It also reports that the firm posted roughly 48% growth and that this recognition helped put the company on the Fast 50 list, which in turn pushed the need for a larger home base.

More Room for Crews and Projects

On its own blog, Performance Electrical Contracting described 2025 as a year of rapid expansion and recognition and said the new headquarters will centralize preconstruction, equipment staging and hands-on training. That additional space is expected to let the company ramp up multifamily, hospitality and infrastructure work without juggling off-site storage or temporary shops. Company leaders say on-site parts inventory and dedicated bays for testing should shorten response times on service calls and cut down on logistical headaches for field crews.

Climate Services Get a Home

The company has also spun out an HVAC and energy division, Performance Climate Solutions, which it launched in 2025. State filings show Performance Climate Solutions Inc. was incorporated in September 2025 (BisProfiles). Performance Climate Solutions will operate alongside the electrical crews at the new Lackawanna site, giving the firm a single location for parts, warehousing and mobile service trucks. The setup is intended to let the company offer bundled electrical and climate services to builders and property managers who want one contractor handling both sides of the work.

What This Means for Jacksonville

The move signals that mid-sized contractors on the First Coast are scaling up as demand for housing and infrastructure projects climbs, and PEC’s Fast 50 nod raises the firm’s profile with general contractors and developers. The Fast 50 program from the Jacksonville Business Journal highlights the region’s fastest-growing firms, and PEC’s inclusion has put an extra spotlight on its rapid growth. For local subcontractors and suppliers, a larger local general contractor can translate into steadier pipelines for crews and vendors, along with more work staying in the Jacksonville market…
