A family tragedy became the center of a sensitive police investigation early Saturday after the 24-year-old brother of a rookie New York Police Department officer was found fatally shot inside a Harlem residence. Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 1:30 a.m. on July 18 near Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Macombs Place. Inside the home, officers discovered the young man with a gunshot wound to his right eye. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim’s name was not immediately released because authorities were still working to notify his family. Police also withheld the identity of his brother, the rookie NYPD officer whose possible involvement has placed the case under an especially intense spotlight.
