A fire that began in a basement garage in Jersey City on Thursday sent thick black smoke through the night sky, spread through two buildings on Stegman Street and displaced multiple families, fire officials said.
The fire started around 5:30 p.m. and climbed three floors before breaking through the roof, according to fire officials.
