Manhattan restaurants closed in August for sanitary violations

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Dining out is a popular trend in New York City due to the wide variety of global cuisines available; however, it’s wise to research your dining options before visiting in person.

To make sure dining establishments are up to par to serve their customers, the NYC Health Department conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year.

Grades are typically assigned after inspection, but restaurants with repeated violations may face closure.

Below is a list of restaurants forced to close down in August, along with several key safety violations discovered, according to ABCEats, the City’s restaurant inspection lookup tool:

    • Live roaches in facility’s food or non-food areas
  • PaPa Thai at 2115 Frederick Douglas Boulevard, Manhattan, 10026
    • Live roaches in facility’s food or non-food areas
    • Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in the establishment’s food and/or non-food areas.
  • Salt & Pepper Gourmet at 10 East 23rd Street, Manhattan, 10010
    • Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use
    • Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.
  • Sea to Soul at 2058 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, Manhattan, 10027
    • Live roaches in facility’s food or non-food areas
    • Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in the establishment’s food and/or non-food areas.
  • Subway at 2508 Broadway, Manhattan, 10025
    • Live roaches in facility’s food or non-food areas

    • Sanitized equipment or utensil, including in-use food dispensing utensil, improperly used or stored.
