Elizabeth “Liz” Sarofiem has opened Candid, an adult-use cannabis dispensary in Jersey City Heights, four years after first conceiving the idea while working on Wall Street.
Sarofiem, 31, is the sole owner of the business at 3662 JFK Boulevard. The Egyptian-American entrepreneur independently financed and built the dispensary without business partners or institutional investors.
“I wanted to build something that challenged what people think a cannabis business is supposed to look and feel like,” Sarofiem said. “There’s still a stereotype around cannabis — who uses it, who belongs in this industry and what walking into a dispensary is supposed to feel like.
