Two West Nile virus cases have been reported in Hudson County, where mosquito detections are among the highest in New Jersey, Gothamist reported on Sunday. The county’s numbers come as the state records its first death from the virus this year.
The New Jersey Department of Health announced the death on October 2 alongside updated statewide counts. The department told Gothamist the person lived in South Jersey and was over 60. It has not released a name.
Hudson County Cases and Mosquito Detections
Gothamist, citing the state health department’s data dashboard, reported that Essex, Passaic and Union counties have one case each. Bergen County has none.
