WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Federal authorities have charged two Newark men for allegedly pulling off seven violent armed robberies at gas stations, including four in Woodbridge, targeting attendants and customers.
Charged in the hold-up spree are Ahmad Singletary, 24, and Joseph Young, 26, according to U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger. More details are available here.
Singletary allegedly brandished a 9mm rogue handgun in the robberies, while Young reportedly drove getaway cars, Sellinger said. Each of the robberies reportedly happened on Sept. 5th and Sept. 12th, 2023
Both men face federal charges of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robberies and seven counts of seven counts of Hobbs Act robbery; one count of conspiracy to use a firearm in a violent crime; and two counts of actually using a weapon in violent crimes.
Singletary is also charged with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Both men are awaiting trial in the Essex County jail.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office released a copy of the lengthy criminal complaint charging the two men. It contains surveillance photos of the robberies and photos of a handgun federal authorities confiscated after Singletary and Young were arrested.
