JERSEY CITY, NJ- Jersey City has officially honored retiring employee Inez Darleen Anderson after 30 years of service. Mayor Steven Fulop recently presented a proclamation to her celebrating her career at City Hall.
Anderson joined the workforce with the City of Jersey City, Department of Health, Division of Disease Prevention in 1994, dedicating herself to the health and wellness of the city.
In 2015, Anderson became the first African-American woman to hold the office of Union President for Local 246, a first in the history of unions for Jersey City government employees. Fulop was the one who swore her in on that historic day.
To Anderson, her proudest moment was being promoted to Division Director of Disease Prevention. It was a full circle moment from where she started with the City 28 years prior.
According to the City, Anderson is loved and well respected not only by her former colleagues at City Hall but by her family and the community she served. “Congratulations on your retirement Inez, and thank you for your service!,” the City said in a statement posted on social media.
