Son of Imam Shot Outside New Jersey Mosque Arrested on Gun Charges as Investigation Continues

Officials did not clarify whether or not the charges announced Monday are connected to the death of Imam Hassan Sharif

The son of an imam who was fatally shot outside his mosque in Newark, New Jersey, has been arrested on a gun violation charge, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said on Monday.

Abdush K. Sharif, 36, was one of three individuals arrested and charged with violating firearms regulations in his Newark home on Friday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Kevin Rogers, 46, and Dashawn Kitchen, 49 were also arrested at Sharif’s home on Friday.

The arrest affidavit indicates that the three men were arrested during the execution of a search warrant, during which officials found a revolver that neither defendant had legal ownership of.

All three are charged with fourth-degree violation of regulatory provisions relating to firearms, the office said. Sharif and Rogers are being held in Essex County jail, but Kinchen was released on a summons, NJ.com reported.
