GoFundMe looks to raise $5000 to help 50 cats in Jersey City

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) Two cats turned into fifty. That’s the situation in a nutshell in Jersey City where a local rescuer has now set up a GoFundMe to raise money to spay, neuter, vaccinated, microchip and rehome dozens of cats.

Elizabeth Cook’s neighbor took in the two initial during the pandemic, but wasn’t able to get them fixed due to the shutdown. When the number had reached 15, he reached out for help, but was priced out of private vet clinics.

“They were quoting him at anywhere from $400 to $900 per cat to neuter them”, Cook told 1010 WINS. “That was not in his price range. It seemed impossible. He felt shamed.”

Several local groups have stepped up, including Next Chance Rescue and Jersey City Care and Control , but they’re also over capacity.

Cook is looking for not only donations, but also fosters and adopters.
