Bouncer fatally stabbed trying to break up fight at Brooklyn bar: NYPD

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A bouncer was fatally stabbed in the neck while trying to break up a fight at a Brooklyn bar on Saturday, authorities said.

Laurence Hopkins, 61, was attacked inside Garden Bar and Grill located at 140 Graham Ave. in Williamsburg at around 1:08 a.m., according to the NYPD. Hopkins was trying to help his coworker who got into a fight with men at the bar, authorities report.

After urging the group to “relax, chill out,” one of the suspects stabbed Hopkins in the neck. The victim suffered a two-inch deep cut to his tongue, police said. His coworkers tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
