Hit-run driver kills woman sitting on Midtown street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A driver plowed into a woman sitting on a Midtown street Tuesday morning and killed her before fleeing the scene, police said.

The 28-year-old woman was sitting on the roadway in the area of West 58th Street and 10th Avenue at 3:40 a.m. when she was struck by a driver in a dark-colored SUV, according to police.

The driver fled the scene eastbound on West 58th Street, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She hasn’t yet been identified.

It wasn’t immediately clear why she was sitting on the road at the time.
