Off-duty NJ cop carjacked by masked men in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — An off-duty New Jersey police officer was carjacked while in Newark early Saturday morning, Newark Police said.

The victim, an officer with the East Orange Police Department, was rear-ended as part of a carjacking scheme at about 4:30 a.m. near Broadway and Second Avenue.

As soon as he got out of his vehicle to assess the damage, the officer was approached by three masked men who stole his keys and drove off in his car.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
