The San Francisco Giants may finally look to spend some big money this offseason under new president of baseball operations Buster Posey.
They have plenty of holes to fill, some of which are on the offensive side, even following the Matt Chapman extension. They could certainly use a big bat to bolster their lineup.
J.D. Martinez is once again a free agent after spending the 2024 season with the New York Mets. R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports listed the Giants as a possible landing spot for the slugger.
Martinez is certainly on the downside of his career at 37 years of age. After hitting 37 home runs with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, the veteran slugger took several steps back with New York.
Instead of following 2023 up with more success, he hit just .235 with 16 homers, 69 RBI and a less than stellar .725 OPS. Anderson even noted that Martinez might be on his last legs at this point.
That could certainly affect his market, but if he can bounce back from a disappointing 2024, he could be a solid addition for any team that is in need of a bat.
