Violent robbery spree leader from Staten Island faces 25 years to life in federal conviction

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island man was convicted by a federal jury on all counts of a superseding indictment stemming from a string of gunpoint robberies and attempted robberies on the Island, Brooklyn and in New Jersey, prosecutors announced Monday, following a six-day trial in Brooklyn Federal Court.

Authorities say Tony Clanton, 51, also known as “Tone,” orchestrated the series of violent robberies between January 2023 and July 2023. Following an indictment, Clanton removed his ankle monitor and fled two weeks before a previously scheduled trial date and was on the run for five weeks.
