Coast Guard Allows Bridge Replacement, Turnpike Extension Project to Move Forward

A “major” milestone was reached to pave the way for replacing the “deteriorating” Newark Bay Bridge and reconstructing the surrounding portion of I-78 as part of the larger Newark Bay-Hudson County Turnpike Extension Project.

The United States Coast Guard has issued permits for that first phase of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority project following an environmental review, Greg Hitchen, bridge program manager for the USCG First District, announced Wednesday morning.
