Pregnant with leukemia: Staten Island mom shares story of frightening diagnosis

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At 29 weeks along in her second pregnancy, Yelena Trunzo was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. And as she faced one of life’s most terrifying diagnoses, she said she was overwhelmed by the kindness she received from the people around her.

“It’s been a crazy five weeks of just unexpectedness and life-changing events, but it definitely showed us how much we’re loved‚’’ the Willowbrook resident said through tears.
