Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba is charging Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) with misconduct involving law enforcement during an incident outside of the Delaney Hall Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. A trespassing charge against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka has been dismissed. Rep. McIver faces charges of assaulting, impeding, and interfering with law enforcement officials.
Habba stated, “McIver had assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1),” adding that her “conduct cannot be overlooked.”
Habba noted that such actions cannot be overlooked and emphasized her duty to protect federal law enforcement. Habba said, “After extensive consideration, we have agreed to dismiss Mayor Baraka’s misdemeanor charge of trespass for the sake of moving forward.”…
