N.J. woman fatally shot by boyfriend ‘lit up every room’

A New Jersey man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend and then fleeing to Delaware allegedly had a heated argument with her before killing her with her children present in their East Orange home, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Shalamar Brown, 44, was shot by Darian Ficklin, 29, at 15 North 16th St. on June 29, according to the affidavit. A witness told police that before shots rang out, Ficklin accused Brown of cheating on him, and then hit her, leaving her with a black eye.

After exchanging profanities, a witness warned Brown that Ficklin had a gun in his shorts, causing her to “retreat” and shut the door. Ficklin then fired the handgun “six or seven” times through the door, striking Brown, the affidavit says…
