NEW YORK CITY – A shocking video circulating online has reignited debate about NYPD accountability after a man who had just been physically assaulted approached a police car for help — only to be told it wasn’t their problem .
Assault Victim Turned Away
The incident unfolded when the man, visibly shaken from the assault, spotted a patrol car nearby and asked the officers for assistance. Instead of stepping in, the two officers reportedly dismissed him, telling him it “wasn’t their area” and that he should call 911 .
Frustrated and in disbelief, the victim began questioning them loudly: “Aren’t you police officers? Isn’t it your duty to help when a crime just happened?” Witnesses captured the confrontation on video, which quickly spread across TikTok, Reddit, and X (formerly Twitter).
