Queens Teen Arrested For Gun, Threat At Cardozo High School

A 16-year-old student from Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens, New York, was arrested on Thursday after allegedly threatening to “shoot the school up” on social media. According to ABC News, the teenager posted the threat on Instagram while in class. A concerned individual saw the post and alerted the FBI, which then contacted the NYPD.

Police officers quickly responded to the school and located the student. Upon searching his backpack, they discovered a loaded 9mm handgun with 13 rounds of ammunition. The student was taken into custody without incident. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted that Cardozo High School does not typically screen students for weapons.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed relief that the situation did not result in tragedy, stating, “This was a failure of a society that allowed a 16-year-old to get so close to shooting up a school and potentially killing classmates and teachers.” He praised the swift response by law enforcement, which prevented a potential disaster…
