Trio accused of stealing dead woman’s home are charged in court

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Deed theft — where somebody steals someone else’s home by claiming it’s theirs — is a highly illegal practice whose occurrence has apparently been on the rise in recent years, with more and more cases reported.

On Wednesday, one case saw three people under arrest, accused by prosecutors of creating false documents in order to take over the home of a deceased woman.

The three, Yuan Kuei Li, 41, Abdur Rahman, 34, and Angela Jazmin Ramos, 35, were walked into criminal court on Wednesday in handcuffs. They made no comments as they headed into the courtroom to face a judge on a long list of charges related to their having allegedly taken over a brownstone on 131st Street in Harlem that did not belong to them.

It was owned by a woman who died seven years ago…
