Jersey City Public Schools Receive $1.25 Million Federal Grant for Mental Health Program

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $1.25 million grant to the Jersey City Public Schools (JCPS) to fund an expansion of student mental health services in the district, U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez announced via press release Tuesday.

The grant will fund a program called Project STARR, which will aim to create internship opportunities in JCPS schools for school psychology graduate trainees and improve access to early, intensive mental health intervention, according to the press release. One of the goals of the program is to increase the number of qualified school psychologists available for the district to hire once they become credentialed.
