Authorities investigating fatal hit-and-run in the Jersey City Heights

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in the Heights yesterday.

At approximately 8 p.m. Monday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a possible pedestrian struck on Tonnelle Avenue near North Street, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said in a statement.

Responding officers located the body of a lifeless man on the northbound side of the road.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene and the striking vehicle did not remain at the scene…
