‘I’m Not Backing Down,’ Outgoing AG Matt Platkin Says Amid Anonymous Attack Mailers Hitting Montclair

Mailers denigrating outgoing state Attorney General Matt Platkin keep showing up in his hometown of Montclair, including at a Township Council meeting earlier this month, where a council member raised his concern about business the town conducts with a politically connected law firm whose CEO Platkin unsuccessfully indicted.

One mailer claims Platkin has “one set of rules for us and another for his friends.” Another charges that he has “run the attorney general’s office into the ground.” Yet another asserts that “Platkin Fails Women.” A resident told Montclair Local she received six separate publications attacking Platkin over the past five weeks, including one that arrived Friday.

Platkin has answered back in posts to the social media platform X. Through a spokesperson, he declined Montclair Local’s offer for additional comment.

“To whoever wasted money to send this fun mailer out about me, let me help you: I’m not running for office, I’m not backing down, and your attacks don’t scare me. I fight corruption because it’s the right thing to do. Sorry I’m not sorry…
