The stop happened in North Arlington around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, near Prospect Avenue and Hedden Terrace, after officers received information from a neighboring agency tied to the theft of an Audi Q5 reported the night before, Lt. David Hudak said.
Based on the circumstances of that investigation, a felony stop and hold was issued for the suspect vehicle and shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies, Hudak said. Surveillance footage identified a black Honda Insight as the suspect vehicle, which North Arlington officers later spotted traveling within the borough, he said. Based on prior law enforcement interactions, officers were able to identify the individual seen operating the vehicle during the Audi Q5 theft, according to Hudak.
When officers stopped the Honda, they recovered three loaded firearms, some containing hollow-point ammunition, police said. One gun had been reported stolen out of North Carolina, and another was equipped with a large-capacity magazine, police said.
