The presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) throughout Jersey City has sparked fear and uncertainty among immigrant residents. In response to heightened federal immigration enforcement in Hudson County, Jersey City leaders have taken decisive action to safeguard residents. At Saint Peter’s University, administrators are also creating policy.
For those at Saint Peter’s University, the Office of Student Affairs released an updated policy for student protections amongst I.C.E. while on campus. Vice President of Student Affairs, Travis Whisler, expressed that since the university noticed more external law enforcement agents being present, they immediately took action, working through a safety plan to keep those on campus safe.
If there are unwanted law enforcement agents near or on campus, there will be a rapid alert system via email and phone calls, similar to the way the university informs staff and students of campus closures during the snowstorms…
