The Jersey City Council reviewed the first reading of an ordinance to create a bike lane on Franklin Street between Palisade and Central Avenues in the Heights during yesterday’s virtual caucus, which was not held in person due to the blizzard.
The proposal has been stuck in limbo for year, which Department of Infrastructure Acting Director Drew Banghart highlighted by noting for city first applied for a grant for the Heights bike lane in 2022.
“Originally, this project contemplated going all the way down to Tonnelle Ave … Through community feedback, Manhattan Avenue was removed from the project. So now we’re focused solely on Franklin Street,” Banghart said.
Council President Denise Ridley noted that Ward C Councilman Tom Zuppa and Ward D Councilman Jake Ephros co-hosted a community meeting last week to update Heights residents on what the latest plan looks like before asking if they’d like to weigh in…
