Deer hunt in N.J.’s 2nd-largest city kills 94

Wildlife specialists used rifles to kill 94 deer within a fenced-off section of Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey state officials said.

The five-day, state-ordered hunt began March 30 within a 200-acre section of the park long closed to the public due to contamination, state Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson Larry Hajna said.

Officials said workers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture used suppressed rifles “designed to minimize noise impacts” in the park, which sits in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline…
