NEW YORK (PIX11) — From mold to missed repairs, NYCHA residents say help often does not come fast enough.
Now, tenants, Metro IAF leaders and Congressman Ritchie Torres are backing a plan to expand the Ombudsperson Call Center. The center acts as an independent oversight body, taking complaints about overdue NYCHA repairs and making sure those fixes happen.

At a news conference Sunday at the Melrose Houses in the Bronx, tenants of NYCHA buildings shared pictures and accounts of problems turned into repairs thanks to the call center.
“Right now, I called NYCHA. They told me they are coming to do some plastering in November,” said Bernard Smith, a tenant of the Morris Houses. “Well, I’m at their mercy, so what do I do? I call the OCC. They called right away and they said they’ll be there in no time.”…
