‘I took the chance’: 87-year-old receives region’s first minimally invasive valve repair

PORTAGE, Mich. — A major milestone in modern medicine proves it’s never too late to take a chance.

Pat Zerfas, 87, has been dealing with a leaky tricuspid valve in her heart for years, leading to fatigue, swelling in the legs and shortness of breath during daily tasks.
