Kalamazoo house, car fire considered suspicious, six people displaced

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Six people have been forced out of their homes by an early morning house fire which is being called suspicious by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Public safety officers arrived just after 6 a.m. to the 500 Block of Walnut Court to find both a car and house on fire.

The fire started with the car and the flames spread to the home, according to Fire Marshall Scott Brooks.

Three adults and three kids were inside at the time, but were all able to make it out safely, Brooks said.

“I was scared for my life, everybody woke up screaming and everything,” Kalamazoo resident Lauren Walker said. “We ran outside with no shoes, the neighbors had to give us clothes and all that type of stuff.”
