Wildwood residents still occupy condemned second-floor units as stairway removal begins

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — More than seven weeks after building inspectors condemned the entire Wildwood Off Main apartment complex in Kalamazoo Township, construction crews have now begun removing all exterior staircases building inspectors had found to be rotting and unsafe.

Several tenants reached out to News Channel 3 Monday morning, including sending photos and videos of the stairs being dismantled.

Wildwood management told residents in an email last week that demolition of stairs to upper level units would begin on Monday, but some residents said they received no direct warning about timing, prior to waking up to construction happening outside of their window…
