OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Firefighters near Kalamazoo left a woodpile to smolder after it caught fire Thursday.
The Oshtemo Township Fire Department said the fire broke out north of the Holiday Inn Express, which is north of W. Main Street east of US-131.
They said a woodpile and woodchipper caught fire, spreading to a nearby pile of refuse and woodchips. Putting it out would have required a lot of water, firefighters said. So because it was contained by an open dirt field, they left it to burn.
