Caterers mix up menus amid cyclosporiasis outbreak

LAWTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Worries about the spread of a parasitic infection around Michigan is causing some local catering businesses to pivot what they’re serving.

Since 2019, Lawton-based Wine Country Catering has been serving meals for life’s biggest moments including weddings, baby showers and graduations. The COVID-19 pandemic taught the team a lot of lessons.

“We had to bounce from week to week, depending on what we could do for our customers at that point,” Laura Maury of Wine Country Catering said.

That flexibility has translated to dealing with Michigan’s outbreak of cyclosporiasis, which can caused “explosive” diarrhea.
